Control Lip Build Up

To control lip buildup in your turf edges of your ballfield, make a habit of pulling out the loose soil after each day’s games with a broom or a leaf rake.

When the buildup begins to get out of hand or solidified on the edge, use either a sharpened iron rake to shave it out, or a hose with a nozzle that can produce a tight stream where you can blast the soil out. If you use the hose method, try to do this on a cloudy day because you will expose some of the tender crowns of the turf plants which are not hardened off from the hot summer sun, and damage to the turf along your edges may occur.
